THE HOLY MOUNTAIN

Alejandro Jodorowsky may be the greatest Spanish director of all time!

My favorite of this amazing director's amazing repertoire has to be his 1973 Avant-Garde, experimental classic The Holy Mountain!

I could never find word to describe the story of the film. So according to the source IMDb this is what the story line is... (Hopefully this isn't illegal)

"A Christlike figure wanders through bizarre, grotesque scenarios filled with religious and sacrilegious imagery. He meets a mystical guide who introduces him to seven wealthy and powerful individuals, each representing a planet in the solar system. These seven, along with the protagonist, the guide and the guide's assistant, divest themselves of their worldly goods and form a group of nine who will seek out the Holy Mountain, in order to displace the gods who live there and become immortal."

I couldn't of said it better myself!

Now the best way I could describe the feel of this flick would be take every trippy video by The Beatles and increase the psychadelic factor by 10x... But it is awesome!

Holy Mountain
Now for my thoughts on the film. The Film, although very strange, is very well put together. The special FX are also amazing, Scenes including people being shit and birds flying out of the open wounds and old men with bobcats for tits are done beautifully and that is just the beginning! The acting is good, or if you can call it acting. A lot of the acting is mostly body motions and screaming by the "main character".

Really this is a hard movie to review but basically all I can say is that the film is highly recommended and should be seen by everyone!

Now I write this review for this site because this movie is FILLED with disturbing imagery and also has some pretty great gore FX...  The film contains LOTS of nudity, graphic animal slaughter and like I said some pretty nice gore.

So if psychadelic 70's movies are your kind of thing then definitaley give this one a go! Its one of my favorite films of all time! Below are some stills! Thanks for reading

  1. C-Dub, this is one of the most memorable films I have ever seen. So many weird images are burned into my brain forever. I do not understand this film but I love it. Also it is beautifully shot and would look great on an HD transfer if done right. Rock on sir
